College Survival Guide: A memoir for The Freshies

Alright freshmen, here you are embarking on this new level of opportunity they call College. Here is where for many of you Life Is about to begin! You'll meet your dream man, have a ton of friends and party ALL DAY with making Deans List. Now Ive never been a 'Debby Downer' nor fans of those who don't believe in other peoples dreams, HOWEVER I want to sway you to change those goals just a little bit. Being now a Senior in College graduating December 2018(Well talk about that later lol), I know a little about how to maneuver through this wildlife they call College. So heres some things you need to know:

#1: You'll Be Stressed Out

-Being stressed out is inevitable in college, at least thats my experience anyway. Its not so much as horrible time management but you MAY encounter a point at the semester where all 5 of your classes want to give a project, test and presentation within the same week. On top of that your new found favorite organization is hosting a social and your trying your best to get member of the month, and if your anything like me that part time job that you have to support yourself is also asking you to work 20+hours this week. One thing that you have to remember is that you MUST take time out for yourself, although there may be several opportunities that you want to embark on doesn't mean that you must achieve those all at one time. Remember, take a breather and while those extra curricular are enjoyable academics are what your truly there for so make those a priority.

#2: Be Organized

I seriously cant stress enough how important organization is! Lack of organization will be the kryptonite of your successful semester. Believe me, I know. Organization helps with the overall experience and serves as a guide to how your semester will play out. On the first week of classes I recommend buying a large wall calendar, take a look at your syllabi and map out all important dates with pencil, unfortunately many professors love to 'adjust' deadlines. -_- While you may have a great short term memoir its also good to place even the least important tasks such as when your scheduled to work just so there aren't any accidents and or missed shifts.

#3 Health is Important

While you may get caught up in the dining halls unlimited food, delicious desserts and all the soda you can consume please remember to maintain your health while in school. You don't want the Freshmen 15 0r 30 to be your case, although the food may be good try to dedicate a couple of days out the week to healthier choices. Also, Tupperware is a must if your anything like I was as a Freshman (Broke, Broke and BROKE).

#4 Enjoy Your Years!

While keeping in mind to the tips I have above, remember to also Have FUN! Now that doesn't necessarily mean anything illegal, but anything that makes your experience fun for you. Get involved on campus and in your local college town, that will add to your overall experience making college more enjoyable. If your anything like me college organizations will be the lifesaver in your time of misery, whether its community service, kickbacks or whatever I never would've survived this long without the individuals I meat through getting involved. This time in your life your embarking on the last years of "Childhood", where you have responsibilities but to an extent can be careless at the same time. Whether its a study abroad, organization or externship be sure to give it your all and make the best out of your experience, because these are some years you'll NEVER get back.

Enjoy the fruits of your labor ........after all, your paying for it anyway!
